The mobile kitty collecting game Neko Atsume will be getting its own live-action film. The movie will tell the story of a young author who moves to the country in hopes of finding a cure for his writer’s block. While spending time outside looking for inspiration, the protagonist comes across a random cat who has come to visit his garden. If the movie is an accurate reflection of the popular mobile game, other cats should soon follow as the author begins to leave treats and other gifts outside.
The movie is being produced by MediAnd with director Masatoshi Kurakata at the helm. The movie will star Japanese actor Atsushi Ito in the leading role and there are bound to be numerous adorable feline co-stars. The film is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan sometime in the new year. If an official subtitled version is not released, fans of the game will surely be making their own version for non-Japanese speakers to enjoy.
