Welcome back to my Disney Classics review series! We left off with Cinderella and now we shall continue with Alice In Wonderland. Unlike Cinderella, this is a Disney Classic that has more mixed opinions. Some people think this is one of the better ones; some think it’s one of the worst. Me? This film is flawless. The only thing in this film that is even remotely close to a flaw is the clichéd “it was all a dream” ending. Everything else? Perfect.

The animation in Alice In Wonderland is more than stunning. It’s psychedelic and beautiful and dark all at once and it works in the most wonderful of ways. The character models are colorful and yet, each has a limited color palette so that you can identify each one by looking at their outfit. Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the Caterpillar are represented with cool colors, while Tweedledee/Tweedledum and the Queen of Hearts are made up of warm colors. The Cheshire Cat is a mix of both. It’s the little details that make all the difference.

The characters are not only well-animated, but they’re fun, too! A lot of the Classic Disney movies had characters that weren’t fun enough, but every one of these, even Alice herself, are charismatic and entertaining. The backgrounds are also, while dark and mysterious, very well-designed. The dialogue for the characters is crazy but damn, is it fun!

THE VERDICT

The entertainment value? High. The character enjoyment? High. The environment and character detail? High. Sure, the ending may be a bit of a cliché, but this is a film that’s so well-made, I can make an exception. Alice In Wonderland is an original, fun, and beautifully crafted animated masterpiece. I’m going to give it an A+.
