Marvel’s Netflix shows have gone from strength to strength since the first season of Daredevil was released in 2015. With shows such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist further developing Marvel’s extraordinary universe, the upcoming Defenders season is all everyone seems to talk about when it comes to Netflix (well, that and Stranger Things but that’s for another time).
What has taken everyone by surprise so much is that these seemingly lost characters have found a way into the zeitgeist without the pomp and pageantry you may get in some of the more rambunctious entries in the MCU. This is no more prevalent than with Jon Bernthal’s excellent portrayal of Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil. His turn as the Punisher washed away those bad tastes left behind by the likes of Dolph Lungren during the early 1990s.
Now it seems Netflix and Marvel have combined the give Bernthal’s Punisher his own season – one we can only assume will dig deeper into the horrendous past that led him to this situation. In a very brief tease, Stan Lee discusses the need for heroes in the world, as well as the kind of people they can be. For almost all of the clip, we see highlights of each Defender in their build up to the anticipated union. That is until we hear Castle, wearing an obviously battered top complete with the character’s synonymous logo.
The Defenders will be released in full via Netflix on August 18, 2017, with The Punisher likely to come out sometime around November 2017.
