Thousands of players are gathering together in Star Wars: The Old Republic since it was announced that Carrie Fisher passed away. The in-game memorials are being held at House Organa on Alderaan which is the ancestral home of Princess Leia, Fisher’s character in Star Wars. There is an ongoing petition on SW: TOR‘s official forums requesting that a statue be placed at the Organa residence. The current timeline of the game is set several thousand years before Princess Leia’s birth. However, some excellent ideas in the forum thread include creating a statue of Carrie Fisher or a new character named Carrie Organa instead.
For the players on the dark side of the force, the trip to pay their respects at House Organa is met with guards and battle droids. While these players must fight off the non-playable characters, they are not fighting with each other out of respect. Some of the higher level Sith Empire players have even gone as far as guarding the lower level Sith so that they may also pay their respects without fear of dying to the NPCs.
It is always wonderful to see players coming together as a community. It is a shame that these gatherings are due to the passing of an incredibly talented woman.
