The Last Guardian by Sony Interactive Entertainment was first announced for the PlayStation 3 during E3 in 2009. It was set to finally reach consumer hands sometime in 2011, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. The game had been considered cancelled by many due to it disappearing without a trace for many years. The Last Guardian finally came out of hiding when it was re-revealed once again for PlayStation 4 during Sony’s E3 2015 conference. This time a release date of October 25th, 2016 was announced and a playable demo also became available. Unfortunately, the game has been delayed yet again and is now looking at a release date of December 6, 2016 in North America.
Many are concerned that the game will not live up to expectations. Game reviewers who were able to try the demo in 2015 noticed glaring issues including outdated graphics, frustrating controls, and camera view inconsistency. The playable character, a little boy, moves very slowly and the clunky controls only add to the problem. The unique griffin-like creature named Trico is very cute and quite interestingly designed, but he might not be enough to save this game if the issues from 2015 have not been ironed out. Here’s hoping that all of these delays have lead to a game with several updates to keep it modern and smooth out the gameplay.
