Netflix has recently released the first trailer (above) for a brand new Netflix Original Series: Stranger Things. This one had snuck up on us as we’d not even heard any chatter regarding the series until the announcement of the trailer. The “paranormal thriller” series stars fan favorite Winona Ryder, in her very first leading television role, as a mother on a desperate search for her missing son, played by Noah Schnapp (the voice of Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie.) Rounding out the cast are David Harbour, Matthew Modine, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Millie Bobby Brown, and Finn Wolfhard.
Stranger Things is a period piece, set in 1980s suburban Indiana. The promising trailer (and poster below) oozes with a nostalgic feel reminiscent of E.T., The X-Files, and the more recent Super 8 film. Ryder’s character, Joyce, embarks on a precarious investigation that “unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, frightening supernatural forces and one perplexing little girl.”
Stranger Things debuts on Netflix July 15th.
