DC Fandome was an awesome time for fans, particularly gamers who are fans of the superhero videogame genre. Not only did we get the reveal of the long-awaited Rocksteady title that the British studio has been working on since their 2016 release Batman: Arkham VR, we also got the exclusive reveal for WB Games Montreal’s next project: Gotham Knights. After a drought of a few years without any DC superhero titles, these two games, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights, will surely satisfy the craving so many gamers have.
2021: Gotham Knights (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC)
Announced at one of the first panels this past Saturday, WB Games Montreal, after a week of ARG-teases and hype, revealed their latest project to be the third-person action RPG: Gotham Knights which stars the Bat-family of Robin (Tim Drake), Batgirl, Nightwing, and the masked vigilante Red Hood. The game takes place in a separate universe to the Batman: Arkham series where Batman has died, and the new quartet of heroes needs to step up to meet the threats in Gotham City. The gameplay is based around a new, original story that will take the player across villains like the Court of Owls and Mr. Freeze.
Players can enjoy the game by themselves in a single-player mode or in a two-player online co-op, a revolutionary feature for the experience. WB Games has also confirmed Gotham Knights will debut in 2021 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
2022: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC)
The next game from legendary developer Rocksteady Studios (Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman: Arkham City, and Batman: Arkham Asylum) has finally been revealed as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a brand-new title set within the universe of the Batman Arkham games that pit the anti-hero team against the Justice League. Today’s reveal unveiled the inclusion of Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark as some of the characters that will be featured in the game.
Unlike Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is rather far off in terms of its release. The end of the cinematic teaser trailer confirmed the game will launch on next-generation platforms only, meaning PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, in 2022.
These are just two of the many announcements from DC Fandome which included a new trailer from Wonder Woman 1984 and the first footage from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but they are still very exciting announcements, particularly for the gaming community. Gotham Knights from WB Games Montreal launches in 2021, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios launches in 2022.
