Emerging indie moviemaker Emily Carmichael is set to direct the highly popular comic book series, Lumberjanes and bring it to film. It is being produced by Stephen Spielberg, Simon Kinberg and Colin Trevorrow. Carmichael’s short films have screened in competition at Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, Slamdance, and other US and International film festivals. Carmichael is also the co-writer of the screenplay for Pacific Rim 2 with Kira Snyder.

Lumberjanes is the story of five teenage girls (Mal, Ripley, Molly, April, and Jo) and their mission to protect their scout camp from mystical creatures and supernatural threats. Imagine it as an all female cast of The Goonies.

Launching two years ago and published by Boom! Studios., Lumberjanes was created by Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, and Brooke Allen.
