MTV Developing ‘War of the Worlds’ Adaptation for Television

wotw-750x429
We’ve recently become aware of a new television series in development over at MTV.  THR reported recently that MTV is currently looking to reboot the Mars invasion! Jeff Davis and Andrew Cochran, the men behind the current MTV series Teen Wolf, are being courted to helm the adaptation based on H.G. Wells’ 1897 novel War of the Worlds.

This isn’t the first time Mr. Wells’ novel, depicting a Martian invasion, has been adapted for popular consumption. Among the most famous, or infamous, adaptations is the 1938 radio broadcast that was narrated and directed by Orson Welles for the Mercury Theatre on the Air. The novel has also been adapted into seven films (including the most recent 2005 Tom Cruise installment), various radio dramas, comic-book adaptations, video games, and even a prior television series which ran for two seasons back in 1988-1990.

What’s old is new again it seems, as reboots continue to draw high demand. As reported by THR:  “Already in the works this season are reboots of Dynasty (The CW), Magnum P.I. (ABC), The Lost Boys (The CW),Varsity Blues (CMT), The Departed (Amazon) and L.A. Law, though the latter does not yet have a network attached.”

We’ll keep you posted right here on Second Union as more information becomes available.
