San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was another unforgettable experience for fans and industry insiders alike, with major reveals, exciting parties, and incredible showcases taking center stage. From Hall H blockbuster screenings to offsite activations that brought fan-favorite characters to life, here are my top 7 moments that defined SDCC 2024:
1. Deadpool & Wolverine Hall H Fan Screening
Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, director Shawn Levy, and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige stunned San Diego Comic-Con with a surprise Deadpool & Wolverine screening in Hall H. Originally billed as a panel, the event turned into an exclusive preview of the film, with co-star Emma Corrin joining on stage. Unlike usual panels, Hall H was cleared, and a lottery system determined entry. Lucky attendees not only watched the movie but received a limited-edition popcorn bucket, which became a fan favorite, with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld even signing a few for fans.
2. The Fandom Party Featuring Jason Derulo
Fandom threw one of the most electrifying parties of Comic-Con, headlined by none other than Jason Derulo. Fans and industry professionals danced the night away as Derulo performed his biggest hits, bringing energy and excitement to an already epic celebration. The Fandom Party has solidified itself as a must-attend event during SDCC, and this year, it surpassed all expectations with top-tier entertainment and a star-studded guest list.
3. Her Universe Fashion Show
Ashley Eckstein’s Her Universe Fashion Show once again combined geek culture with high fashion, showcasing designs inspired by beloved fandoms. Talented designers brought their best to the runway with jaw-dropping creations that celebrated the artistry of cosplay and fan expression. As always, the show was a blend of creativity, empowerment, and fandom love, inspiring future designers and celebrating all things geek chic. Discover more here.
4. Hall H Saturday: The Blockbuster Lineup
Hall H’s Saturday schedule was packed with the most anticipated presentations of SDCC 2024, featuring panels from Superman & Lois, the “Star Trek” Universe, BRZRKR, MAX’s The Penguin, and Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage to share exciting updates about upcoming MCU films, including Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World. He also unveiled the full title of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and announced the return of the Russo Brothers to direct the next two Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom! Fans camped out for hours to be part of the legendary Hall H experience, and they were not disappointed.
5. MAX’s The Penguin Activation
Transforming the Gaslamp Quarter into Gotham, MAX brought the world of The Penguin to life with immersive experiences and engaging activations. Attendees could explore detailed sets, meet characters dressed as iconic figures from the show, and even participate in a scavenger hunt for exclusive merchandise. Fans were able to interact with elements from the show, many snapping photos and sharing their experiences on social media. “I felt like I was in Gotham! The attention to detail was incredible,” raved a fan who participated in the activation. Learn more about the activation here.
6. XLE Parties: The Ultimate Networking Experience
The XLE Parties once again set the standard for after-hours networking at Comic-Con. These exclusive events brought together industry professionals, influencers, and fans for an evening of fun, music, and connection. With stunning venues and high-energy performances, the XLE brand continues to be synonymous with the elite social scene at SDCC, allowing attendees to mingle and forge lasting relationships in a vibrant atmosphere. 7. Comic-Con Museum: Betty Boop
This year, the Comic-Con Museum hosted a series of engaging events that captivated fans and showcased the rich history of comic and pop culture. A standout feature was the exclusive Betty Boop exhibit, celebrating the iconic character’s legacy in animation and pop culture. Attendees explored immersive displays highlighting Betty’s evolution over the decades, complete with original artwork, vintage merchandise, and interactive experiences that allowed fans to step into her world. The museum’s events also included panel discussions, workshops, and art showcases, making it a vibrant hub for creativity and nostalgia throughout SDCC 2024.
