Second Union’s Most Anticipated Summer Movies

From CGI formulated characters of our childhood past to the familiar buddy buddy cop scenario, Hollywood has teased us with blockbuster titles and exciting productions trailers for the last year. This summer will be packed with a multitude of options for getting the geek in us to the theater. I have drafted a list of the most anticipated summer movies based on social media buzz.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (PG-13)

Heroes in a half shell Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello are back with more action and have returned to rid the streets of New York City of dirty scum buckets. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is the sequel to the 2014 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film is based on the TMNT characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman and is directed by David Green. WarCraft (PG-13)

Players of the video game Warcraft have been patiently waiting for not only a theater release date but for a more visual peak at the familiar characters through a trailer. Directed/Written by Duncan Jones (son of the late, great singer/songwriter/actor David Bowie.) and stars Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Warcraft follows the story of orc warriors retreating from their declining land and make a journey to colonize the more thriving kingdom of Azeroth. Take a look at its action packed trailer. WarCraft the movie hits theaters on June 10th.

The newly released trailer of Johnson and Hart’s new comedy film has been all the buzz all over the internet. Central Intelligence‘s plot is about a CIA assassin named Bob (Dwayne Johnson) who recruits his former high-school classmate Calvin (Kevin Hart) now an accountant, in the help of saving the world. Watch the trailer. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers, Dodgeball), Central Intelligence hits theaters on June 17th.

Independence Day: Resurgence

The 1996 hit Independence Day catapulted the Summer Blockbuster title which started it all. Audience members of the first finally get the second come back they have been dreaming of. Roland Emmerich’s direction returns with another fearful attack and once again Earthlings have banned together to fight a common enemy – the extraterrestrials. This time Earth will be using found alien technologies to protect their home from becoming theirs. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman reprise their roles from 1996. Joining the cast are Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher (Survivor’s Remorse) and Maika Monroe (The 5th Wave). Check out the latest trailerIndependence Day: Resurgence is scheduled to be released on June 24th.

Here we have another visual telling of  familiar story. Our favorite Enterprise crew returns to the screen in this third segment of the smash reboot franchise. This time, Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the crew are faced with an supreme wave of aliens as they are grounded on a new planet. Reprising their roles from the previous films are Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin. And adding to the famed cast are Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. After being blamed for accidentally killing model Kate Moss at a lavious party, they become easy prey for the paparazzi. Now penniless the two retreat to the super-rich French Riviera where they master mind a plan to get back to living the glamorous life again. It’s ghostbusting time! But now it’s 30 years after Ghostbusters (1984 original) starring a female-led cast with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones in the starring roles. Director Paul Feig brings us a brand new take to the phenomenal supernatural comedy by bringing together some of the funniest actors working today. Check the fridge and then watch the trailer. Ghostbusters is scheduled to be released on July 15th.

Along with a stellar cast of Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, and Tommy Lee Jones this next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise finds the CIA’s most dangerous ex-operative fleshed out of the darkness. From Director Paul Greengrass, we can expect the same non-stop, face paced, heart wrenching action of it’s previous narratives. View the official trailer in HD. Jason Bourne is set to be released on July 29.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released on August 5th on 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D worldwide.
