Hold onto your amps—Spinal Tap is back.
After more than four decades of inspiring both laughter and headbanging, the iconic mockumentary rock band is reuniting for one final encore. The newly released teaser trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues gives fans a taste of what’s to come when the legendary fictional band returns to the big screen on September 12, 2025.
Directed once again by Rob Reiner—who also reprises his role as clueless documentarian Marty DiBergi—the film reunites the core trio of Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel), Michael McKean (David St. Hubbins), and Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls). From the looks of the teaser, the band hasn’t missed a beat—still bumbling, still loud, and still defiantly stuck in their own wonderfully ridiculous world.
Set 15 years after their last tour, Spinal Tap II picks up with the group reluctantly reuniting after years apart, thanks in part to a contractual obligation and some unfinished business. Along the way, fans can expect familiar faces, new disasters, and cameos from rock royalty, including Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks. Yes, really.
Adding to the celebration, a newly restored version of This Is Spinal Tap will be re-released in theaters this summer, giving audiences a chance to revisit the film that redefined the rockumentary genre and inspired a thousand real-life bands to ask, “But does it go to 11?”
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is shaping up to be part sequel, part satire, and all celebration—a love letter to aging rockers, diehard fans, and the enduring absurdity of fame.
