NieR: Automata will be released worldwide on PC on March 17, but PlayStation 4 owners in Japan and North America have been given the chance to play it early. PS4 owners in the EU will also be able to get their hands on the game before the PC launch on March 10.

NieR: Automata is the sequel to the 2010 action RPG NieR, which was a spin-off of the Drakengard series. The game follows main protagonist YoRHa No. 2 Model B, or “2B” for short, a female android. Her companions YoRHa No. 9 Model S (“9S”) and  YoRHa Model A No. 2 (“A2”) assist her in combat. Much like the game before it, NieR: Automata features real-time, action-based combat with RPG story elements. Players can use a mix of fast attacks which hit lighter or heavy attacks which are slow and more powerful. There are four different weapon types: short swords, long swords, bracers, and spears which have different pros and cons. Players can alternate between different weapons and attacks to create different combos.

Reviews have been positive overall so far. There is some slightly negative criticism towards the story and characters. On the other hand, the visuals, soundtrack, and gameplay provide a beautiful and entertaining experience which make the game very worthwhile. There is currently a demo version for PS4 for those who are on the fence so they can try the game before purchasing.
