RECAP: Game of Thrones Season 7 – STORMBORN

Season 7 of Game of Thrones is now in full swing, we as an audience are completely immersed in the trials and tribulations of Westeros’ most important figures, seeing interactions both passive and passionate at what is probably the most fascinating period of this world.

Major spoilers for Stormborn are featured in this post. You have been warned!

By the time this current run of Game of Thrones comes to an end, I’m sure this will be the episode that turned the tide. Everything that happens from here on will be because of this episode. Stormborn, for the most part, seemed to be your regular, run of the mill episode. How wrong we were!

So, we opened up with Danaerys and her council discussing matters of allegiance, in particular, the previous actions of Varys towards former Kings such as Robert Baratheon. Varys, in one of his more touching moments, declared his unquestionable loyalty to Danaerys and her quest for the Iron Throne. A quest that leads Mellisandre to her company to discuss a union between her and the King of the North, Jon Snow. Although apprehensive, Tyrian persuades her to finally arrange a meeting between the two on the condition that Jon “bends a knee on arrival”.

From here on, the episode runs through a series of events more entertaining than the last. Arya discovers Jon and Sansa have returned to Winterfell and reunites with her former Direwolf, Nymeria, in a touching encounter between the 2 former friends. Jon accepts Danaerys’ invitation, leaving Sansa in charge of Winterfell, Cersei and Maester Qyburn delves into the depths of where the Mad King kept his Dragons, Sam gruesomely begins the process of removing Jorah Mormont’s Greyscale and Greyworm and Missandei consummate their relationship in beautiful fashion.

Then we get those final 10 minutes. Yora and Ellaria go back and forth about their intentions for one another, leading to a very intimate moment between the 2. Then suddenly, BANG! Euron and his Iron Fleet arrived to lay siege to Yora and her army. What followed was about 10 minutes of hard hitting action, brutal death scenes, and a highly contentious decision by Theon to abandon his sister after Euron defeats her in hand to hand combat.

Stormborn has created one hell of a storm on the internet since it’s airing. Most people believe Theon to be wrong in his perceived cowardly act of jumping ship. However the way Alfie Allen portrays the PTSD clearly on display from Theon was controlled, calculated, and considerably creative. More of the same, please!
