My son received this as a gift for Christmas, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised, by both the artwork and the content. To begin with, the art is what I would classify as “House Art”, while not spectacular it is by no means mundane. The information is accurate and in easy to read snippets, that are clear, concise and to the point. Where this book really shines is in the pop-ups themselves.

There are typically three per page, one in the center, that “pops out” when you open the page, but there are also two smaller pop-ups, that you must manually open, each residing on the bottom left of the left page and the bottom right of the right page. I found that while I loved the center pop-up, it was the smaller pop-ups that I really enjoyed. You see, one or two of the smaller pop-ups were what I would call mini pop-up books themselves, often having two or three pages per pop-up. My favorite was the mini pop-up containing the death of superman at the hands of Doomsday, followed by the pop-up of Lex Luthor giving a mini origin of Lex.

My favorite centerpiece pop-up was Darkseid. As you opened the book to its apex, Darkseid goes from being surrounded by his Parademon’s, to his arms being outstretched and his hands opening as if to grab at you. All in all, this was a great pop-up book.
