Welcome to Rob’s Reviews! This week I review HE-MAN/THUNDERCATS #1, published by DC Comics.

But his dimension-spanning scheme kick starts a cataclysmic crisis that will embroil heroes and villains—Masters, Mutants and ThunderCats—in a mind-blowing six-part saga!”
STORY: Okay, to start off I have never read anything written by Lloyd Goldfine and he did not inspire me to read his work. The story was weak and the plot has so many plot holes it looks like my much-worn Spiderman Underoos of yesteryear. For example, Mummra succeeds where Skeletor has always failed, that being to acquire He-Man’s Sword of Power. Not only that but then he is betrayed by the Ancient Spirits of Evil, who appear to kill him and give the Sword of Power to their new ally, Skeletor. Yep, Mummra succeeds where Skeletor fails, and easily I might add, and then he is betrayed by the very person who has never beaten He-Man. In a word: WEAK!
Oh yea and Mummra shanks Prince Adam through the chest with the Sword of Power, and Adam says, “By the Power of Greyskull”, and he turns into He-Man. No wound. No injury. No anything.

ART: Freddie E. Williams II handles the art, and is spectacular. His art encapsulates action and is just stylized enough to allow for some cosmetic alterations of these time-honored characters.
As I have said previously (Ad nauseam), art is very subjective and my criteria are that I know what is being drawn (i.e. a horse looks like a horse and not a dog) and the art jives with the story, and Williams II nails it!

PRICE: HE-MAN/THUNDERCATS #1 comes in at $3.99 an issue, is monthly, and a limited series.

Rob’s Recommendation: Don’t Buy! While I have been excited for this crossover since it was first announced, and usually give a comic at least two issues before I give it a thumb down, in this instance I just can’t. Mainly because when all is said and done you would have plunked down nearly $25 for something that comes out of the gate very flat. I could be wrong, but probably not. I would save the $25 and wait for the trade where you can get them at 45% of cover price, which will be around $10.
