Welcome to Second Union’s “Films To Make You Festive“. For the majority of December, Second Union will be talking about our favorite “festive films” in an attempt to get our readers ready for the holiday season. Expect action, adventure and all the nostalgia a Christmas period can possibly produce!
Can you believe there are only 3 days until Christmas Day? If you’re not feeling festive now then you may well be a lost cause. But make a hearty effort I most certainly shall! For me, there are 4 films that must be watched over this festive period, The Polar Express, The Santa Clause, Muppet Christmas Carol and The Grinch. First on the list, the awe-inspiring “Polar Express”.
“The Polar Express” is, without doubt, one of the most magical Christmas tales released to date. Its simple interpretation of a modern child’s dissolution towards the Holiday season is the perfect reminder why we all enjoy this time above all else.
Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis reunite for this adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
From mind-blowing visuals aboard the train to intensely emotional scenes with troubled child Billy, “Polar Express” does not cease to increase the spectacle from minute one. The amazingly simple enjoyment experienced is only complimented by the subjective goldmine that is Tom Hanks’ cacophony of overt characters. This mix, crafted with such heart by the ever consistent Zemeckis, creates such a sense of wonder within you as a viewer that you cannot help but feel that mysticism once felt as a naive child.
There is no question that “The Polar Express” is a film to help you feel festive. Granted, it may lean more towards the younger audience, however, as an adult, you can travel back to a time without responsibility, without complication, and, above all, without a single care in the whole world. Take it from me, stop what you’re doing and watch it, you’ll completely love it.
